A Maritime telecommunications company is putting a cap on rural internet usage.
Eastlink says a monthly data allowance of 15 gigabytes will begin in August.
Spokesperson Jill Laing says the rural internet service was intended for basic needs like email, social media and web browsing.
She adds, people who use it for that should not be impacted.
However, residents who stream high volumes of video can expect to pay up to $20 more a month if they exceed 15 gigabytes.
Eastlink has developed a tracking tool to help customers monitor their usage.
