Emergency Management Exercises To Be Held In Bridgewater

Emergency teams from across the province will be conducting training exercises in Bridgewater this week.

First responders will be conducting mass casualty training exercises at the South Shore Exhibition grounds Wednesday morning.

Patrick Hirtle, communications for the town, says the exercises are necessary to ensure potential emergency situations are handled properly.

“Essentially its preparation preparedness and making sure that agencies know how to react and interact with each other in a crisis,” he said.

Exercises will include coordinated response training, handling simulated casualties, Mass Casualties Protocol testing and possibly landing of a Life Flight Helicopter.

Hirtle says while public access to the grounds will not be available during the exercises to ensure public safety, the exercises will also no impede the goings on of the town.

“The exercises are specifically designs not to have any impact on traffic or the town,” he said.

“There’s going to be the primary site of the exhibition grounds and then as I understand they will be doing some activities at the hospital, but the public won’t see emergency vehicles on the roads speeding across town or anything like that.”

Exercises will run from 10 am to 12 PM at the grounds, with a debriefing for emergency personnel to follow.
