Emergency Test Today

You’ll hear a rather annoying sound today on your wireless device.

But that sound could save your life in the event of an emergency.

It’s the Alert Ready test, Canada’s Emergency Alert system.

Paul Mason, executive director with Nova Scotia EMO says the test in this province will be delivered at 1:55 p.m.

The test will be on radio, TV and compatible wireless devices.

“It’s a great tool for those coordinating a response to an event. Having the wireless functionality, which was introduced in May of 2018, kind of provides an additional layer to that. It can be targeted a little bit more from a geographical perspective.”

Compatible wireless devices will vibrate and the alert sound will play with a text stating it’s only a test.

They’ve been cancelled in Ontario and Quebec due to the floods.
