Federal Government Invests In Mahone Bay Forestry Company

A company that helps connect woodlot owners to people who need trees is getting support from the federal government.

Woodscamp Technologies Inc. in Mahone Bay received a $250,000 repayable investment from ACOA.

The company has developed a website that allows landowners to identify their properties and determine if they want to generate income from it.

Co-founder Alastair Jarvis says people can go to woodscamp.com to access a report to see if they qualify to get paid to grow their forest.

“We’re giving them information that they need to have confidence in having forestry work done on a property but knowing that they can get that done but still have a forest standing at the end of it.”

Jarvis says the technology they’re offering provides an efficient system to supply mills or loggers.

About 1,000 people from Yarmouth to Cape Breton have accessed the service so far.

He hopes to eventually expand the service to regions outside of Nova Scotia.
