When people on the South Shore vote in the next federal election they’ll do so in a freshly named riding.
The decision was made at the end of the last session of Parliament to re-name the constituency of South Shore – St. Margaret’s to South Nova.
MP Bernadette Jordan is responsible for the region that runs from the Yarmouth County line up to Exhibition Park in Halifax.
Jordan says the name reflects boundary changes made before the last election.
“When I spoke to a lot of people in the Prospect area, they said, we’re not even included in the name. So the name got changed to South Nova. It better represents the whole southern area of Nova Scotia.”
The area will be re-christened when the writ is dropped for the next election set to be held October 21.
