Fire Brigades Are On Parade

Firefighters from across Lunenburg and Queens counties will be marching in the town of Lunenburg tonight.

Every year the Volunteer Fire Departments of Lunenburg & Queens hold a parade to show the strength in their solidarity through the South Shore mutual aid system.

The annual event is held in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, and rotates through the towns of Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, Bridgewater and Liverpool.

Cornwall & District Fire Chief Steve Patterson says people seem largely unaware the firefighters do this every year.

“The different times that I’ve marched, I’ve had people ask me after the parade, ‘What this was all about? Why are you doing that?’ And I’ve explained it.”

The parade begins at the Lunenburg Community Centre at 7:00pm and will begin its route along Lincoln Street.
