Fire Rips Through Garage In Upper LaHave

The Canadian Red Cross is helping an Upper LaHave family after fire gutted their garage and damaged part of their home.

Eight Lunenburg County fire departments were called to the scene yesterday on Highway 3.

The fire started in the garage before making its way into the attached home.

Dayspring Chief Stanley Slauenwhite says they quickly fought it back.

“There was a lot of heavy smoke coming out through the soffit vents and out between the garage door and what not.”

Slauenwhite says the homeowner notified them of dangerous material in the garage including gas cans, propane and ammunition.

However, there were no injuries.

Traffic was diverted from a section of the highway for roughly three hours.

Slauenwhite says the cause of the fire is electrical in nature.
