Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for most of the Maritimes this weekend.
A low-pressure system is rolling in from the North that will be bringing with it lower temperatures and precipitation, it is expected to arrive Friday afternoon.
Cold Arctic air is expected to descend South bringing with it some cooler temperatures.
Environment Canada says it is too early in the trajectory of the system
to accurately say how much precipitation will fall but they warn that snow is most likely to fall overnight on Friday when temperatures drop just below freezing.
Ian Hubbard a meteorologist with Environment Canada says tracking storms just around freezing temperatures make precipitation projections challenging.
“With low-pressure systems like this with rain and snow, it can be difficult to determine when the rain will change to snow with temperatures just around the freezing point, though it is looking like most of this storm will be rain.”
Snow is more likely for the western parts of the province with things along the east coast expected to be marginally warmer, leading to more rain than snow.
He adds that it is still early days for the storm and advises that Nova Scotians check forecasts regularly to follow any updates.
