First Time Brewers Team Up To Create New Suds

Sisters are brewing it for themselves.

That’s the message from two women who joined forces to create their first suds.

Melanie Perron is co-owner of Hell Bay Brewing in Liverpool.

Amanda Murray is bar manager at Firkinstein Brewing in Bridgewater.

While both work with beer, they had yet to try their hands at brewing it themselves.

Perron says they needed to change that.

“Cause I think we’re tired of taking the back seat now, you know, these boys sure they’re brewing the beer but we do have our say in how things go on and what the outcomes are but it’s just time people see that we’re in there too,” says Perron.

Murray says there are many women in the industry, just not always brewing.

“They tend to not be boistrous and they’re just behind the scenes, but we can do it too,” says Murray.

Murray and Perron say they’ve heard from other women brewers in Halifax who are excited to see more representation on the South Shore, including the newly hired brewer at Lunenburg’s Grand Banker.

Murray and Perron’s beer is a cream ale infused with strawberries and vanilla though they say it didn’t quite turn out as fruity as they wanted.

So they’ve dubbed it ‘Hell, We Firked Up!’

It’s available on tap at both Firkinstein and Hell Bay.

Both say to look for more collaborations from them in the future.
