Food Bank To Get A Boost From First Responders

Emergency services in Lunenburg County are joining together once again to collect donations for the Interchurch food bank.

South Shore Paramedics, Bridgewater Police Service and Lunenburg County RCMP will be at the Bridgewater Superstore Saturday hoping to stuff their vehicles full of food for those in need this Christmas.

The three organizations used to engage in friendly competition to see who could raise the most.

Paramedic Nicole Monaghan says they decided to change that approach a few years ago.

“Interesting doing the challenge where we were competing, but it was a little one-sided as I handed out all the posters. Collaboratively, we do a lot better.”

Monaghan hopes to stuff their vehicles full.

“We’re bringing an ambulance down, a police cruiser and an RCMP vehicle. Our plan is to fill it and haul it to the food bank.”

Over $49,000 worth of food has been raised over the past eight years.

Donations can be made at the Bridgewater Superstore, Saturday between 1:00 and 5:00pm.

More information on how to donate can be found on the event Facebook page.
