Former Bowater Mill Sees New Business

Prefabricated homes could soon start being shipped around the world from Port Mersey.

Small environmentally friendly houses are being constructed inside a hanger in the commercial park.

The first one is getting ready to be transported to St. Margaret’s Bay this week.

Jonathan Lloy, owner of Lloyoll Custom Building says he’s excited to bring economic development back to the Bowater property.

He says they’re already creating new jobs.

“The construction business has grown in general we’ve been very busy this year,” he says. “Definitely 5 have been directly related to this project but we’ve grown by at least, I’d say, nine. This will be what continues to keep those guys employed once those big projects are done. You can’t keep a seventeen person construction crew going very easily in Queens. This facility will help us do that.”

Lloy says a deal with the Region of Queens made it possible for them to use the former Bowater property to build the houses.

He says without it they wouldn’t have been able to create the success they’ve had so quickly.

Lloy expects the business will continue to grow in the coming months.
