Former CKBW Announcer, Newsman Passes Away

A former announcer and news director at CKBW has died.

Ed Boylan passed away this morning at age 80.

Boylan started part-time at CKBW in 1956 before transitioning into the news department.

He became news director in 1988 and retired from broadcasting in 1995.

Former radio station owner and GM, Bob MacLaren, says Boylan was shy but quickly grew out of his shell.

“Ed developed into a great personality, had a great sense of humour and got along great with all staff members.”

MacLaren says Boylan trained many young journalists, helping them find jobs in the industry.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
