Former Premier Roger Bacon Dead at 95

Premier Tim Houston expressed his condolences Tuesday morning as the province announced former Premier Roger Bacon passed away Monday evening.

“Premier Bacon was a tireless and dedicated public servant and a pioneering farmer who helped transform Nova Scotia’s blueberry industry,” Premier Houston said. “Our province is better and stronger because of his many contributions.”

Bacon was first elected to the House of Assembly in 1970. He was a longtime minister of agriculture and also served as minister of tourism, minister of housing, minister of environment, and deputy premier. He served as premier from 1990 to 1991.

The former Premier was born in Upper Nappan, Nova Scotia in 1926, he is survived by his three children Doug, Diana, and Deborah.

Condolences can be read and submitted online and the flags at Province House will fly at half-mast today in recognition of the former Premier’s passing.
