Fort Point Lighthouse Funding Cut By $37,000

The Region of Queens is looking for someone to take over operation of the Fort Point Lighthouse.

The municipality has reduced the budget for the property from almost $50,000 last year to $13,000.

Mayor Christopher Clark says some community members have already expressed interest in taking it over.

“I think it’s going continue to be an attraction for visitors and not be a burden on the tax rate.”

Clark says with taxes going up this year they needed to find ways to save where they could.

He says money budgeted this year will only cover insurance, utilities, and necessary repairs.
