Foundation Celebrates 10th Year Of Bursary Program

A bursary program utilized through the Health Services Foundation is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Post secondary nursing students submit an application, highlight their community service and discuss why they want to stay on the South Shore.

Almost $287,000 has been doled out.

Treasurer Laura Gibson says of the 77 students who have received money over the last decade, 68 are employed by the Nova Scotia Health Authority or completing their return for service.

“So, for every year they receive a bursary they need to have one year service in the South Shore, Fishermen’s Memorial or Queens Regional (General) Hospital in lieu of repayment.”

The program is also assisted by an anonymous donor, the Queens General Hospital Foundation and the ladies auxiliary at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg.

Applications are due by August 1.
