A funding request from the South Shore Field House Society, which operates the HB Studios Sports Centre in Bridgewater, has been denied.
The Town of Bridgewater and Municipality of the District of Lunenburg have directed their CAOs to prepare a report on alternative models for the sustainable operation of the facility.
The society’s debt stands at more than $400,000.
They requested each municipal unit contribute more than $40,000 per year for five years to help alleviate the debt.
MODL Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson says the decision was made after careful consideration.
“We have to look and balance the needs of our community groups with fiscal responsibility and accountability,” says Bolivar-Getson.
“The current funding model did not seem to be sustainable.”
The facility has been open since 2006 to soccer players and other athletes of all ages from the South Shore and across the province.
It is one of a few year-round indoor turf facilities in Nova Scotia..
Bolivar-Getson expects CAOs will begin their work on the report immediately.
