Going Anywhere?

I am not a big traveler. I have travelled a bit in the past, but it’s never been a big thing in my life. I don’t mind the idea of going to exotic places. Maybe I just haven’t found the right places for me.

And as for just going someplace warm and sunny for the sake of going someplace warm and sunny, you still have to come back. I’d rather just put up with winter and force myself to enjoy it.

So I don’t really understand the need to travel. While the idea is nice, I don’t see it as something I absolutely must do. People who refuse to stay put in the middle of a pandemic don’t make a lot of sense to me.

I know people who spend their winters in Florida and still went this year. Most of them are people who have property or a rental that they have to pay for anyway. They aren’t just going at random. They have researched infection rates in their areas and have arranged for insurance and seem to have things pretty much covered, but to me it still seems like they are taking a chance. But its up to them. As long as they follow all the rules. At least the ones that might affect me.

I also know many others who usually winter in the south who are staying home this year. Can’t say I blame them. But again, its their choice.

But I seem to be naturally wired to not want to do the go south thing. This makes it hard to understand the many politicians who seemed to feel the need to go somewhere over Christmas. Spending two weeks in isolation to spend a week or so in the sun doesn’t really add up in my book. Spending two weeks in isolation to spend three or four months in the sun, as in continuing to be a snowbird, at least makes a bit more sense to me.

But I’ll still stay here. Especially right now.
