It’s the end of the line for the former Gold River School.
Council met with the community to go over options for the defunct school.
Efforts had been made to convert the building to a community hub.
But Warden Allen Webber says the proposal wasn’t feasible.
“It didn’t meet the requirements that we’d set forth. Which was it didn’t really have a business plan, it didn’t have a demonstrated need for the space and there was no long-term sustainability that was evident to us.”
However, Webber says there’s no rush to come up with a plan.
“We’re going to wait for the community to give us some advice on what they think the best use would be. They’ve asked for a couple of months but we essentially said, you aren’t held to a couple of months. We’ll work with you over the next several years.”
Even though the school will be coming down, Webber says the playgrounds will stay up.
He says the building won’t be torn down until children are back to class in September to allow them to use the playgrounds over the summer.
