Lunenburg county needs more people.
That’s according to Paul Pickering and his group who have started a project to help the area grow.
He says young people are leaving and being replaced by retirees.
“At which point they’re not paying taxes,” he says. “They’re not contributing to the workforce and they’re not raising families here. Which means our schools are shrinking and shrinking and shrinking.”
Pickering says the problem also has a huge impact on the labour market in the region.
He says the solution will need to deal not only with attracting new people, but encouraging current residents to stay.
