Lunenburg’s working group tasked with reviewing the rules pertaining to home based businesses doesn’t represent the community.
That’s according to business owner and hat maker, Anna Shoub who’s been left out of the group.
“The job of the mayor is to represent your constituents whether you agree with them or not. It’s certainly not to shut them up,” said Shoub.
She says, the town is attempting to silence opposition by leaving her out of the group.
“I think the whole thing was set up to fail. The application process happened after the first meeting was set up and announced. I received my notice telling me to attend and so did everybody else originally approached about being on the committee,” explained Shoub, adding “They turned around and manipulated things the way they wanted to because they didn’t have the voices at the table, like those supporting necessary changes to the home.”
The task force consists of two councillors, John McGee and Thom Barclay along with five volunteer community members including Will Brooks, Gladys Collicutt, Jessika Hepburn, Sue Hudson and Jamie Myra.
“Jamie Myra, for example, has been very vocal about how he doesn’t want home based businesses in his neighbourhood,” said Anna.
Shoub isn’t sure what her next step will be. She’s not confident her time will be well spent attending meetings that are open to the public.
The next Live/Work Task Force meeting is coming up November 9th.
