Health Authority Hires New Recruiter For South Shore

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is putting more resources into bringing physicians to the South Shore.

Recruiter Patti Smith was hired last month.

Based out of South Shore Regional Hospital, Smith hopes to highlight Southwestern Nova Scotia’s natural environment and recreation opportunities to attract more doctors and their families.

“There’s not that many places in the world that you can live and work and be ten minutes from the beach or drive a very short period of time and own a hobby farm in the country.”

Smith says while the proximity to beaches and quality of life are factors, community involvement can play a big part in attracting doctors.

“Spending the time with the spouse to find them work or something that’s going to make them adjust into the community a little better is a great way to convince the doctor this is a great move for the entire family.”

Smith works out of South Shore Regional Hospital and is one of three recruiters in Nova Scotia.

She shares responsibility for Yarmouth with her counterpart in Kentville.

She’s focused on getting another 15 or more physicians to the region by the end of the year.
