A soaking rain is expected to move into parts of Nova Scotia Thursday night and continue through Friday.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Lunenburg County, Queens County, Shelburne County and Halifax Regional Municipality.
Rainfall totals of 30 to 50 millimetres are expected, with the potential for higher amounts in some areas, especially in heavier onshore showers.
The rain is tied to a low-pressure system moving into the region Thursday evening, with a chance of thunderstorms bringing more intense bursts of rain in some locations. There is still some uncertainty about where the highest totals will fall.
Localized flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas or places with poor drainage. Creeks and smaller rivers could rise quickly and may overflow their banks.
Travel may be impacted Thursday night into Friday, especially during heavier downpours when visibility could be reduced and water may pool on roads.
People are encouraged to clear storm drains and gutters ahead of the rain and consider adjusting travel plans to avoid the worst conditions.
