Hebbville Gymnast Returns Home With Bronze Medal From Winter Games

A nice welcome home for Canada Winter Games athlete Vincent d’Entremont.

The 18 year-old arrived home Sunday after winning bronze in the gymnastics team event in Red Deer, Alberta.

It was the first medal won by Nova Scotia.

d’Entremont received applause after he was recognized in the crowd during Sunday’s Lumberjack game at the LCLC.

He says competing at the winter games was a unique experience.

“The atmosphere was so much different than what I’m used to for gymnastics competitions because there isn’t usually a lot of cheering but at the Winter Games it was really loud and a lot of people. It was awesome. It got me hyped-up and ready to go.”

d’Entremont trains five days a week and he feels the medal shows hard work can pay off.

He recalls the anxious moments before finding out they finished third.

“I think the whole team was really nervous because we sort of had a rough last event but then we found out we got the bronze medal and we were so relieved, so happy because we all worked really hard for this.”

d’Entremont says the opening ceremony was an incredible experience and he was able to watch table tennis and hockey when he wasn’t training or competing.

The Centre Scolaire de la Rive-Sud student expects this will be the highlight of his gymnastics career with aspirations of becoming an engineer once he’s finished school.

Nova Scotia sits in a tie for sixth in the medal standings with three; one silver and two bronze.
