A man who has been taking cruise trips almost exclusively to the Caribbean for the last 25 years says the unexpected stop in Halifax was not what he is used to.
It was last Tuesday evening when the Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas that was headed to the Bahamas, diverted to Halifax for 24-hours due to bad weather further south.
The ship can carry 2,000 crew members and 6,000 passengers – James Roberston from North Carolina was one of them.
Robertson is known as Jay the Cruise Guy on social media. He said his brief time in Halifax was “definitely different”, but the weather was amazing. Temperatures were in the mid-teens and sunny.
In a video posted to his social media, Robertson is seen wearing a hat and hoodie while exploring the Halifax waterfront.
“The staff and citizens were of the friendliest I have met anywhere,” says Robertson in a message to Acadia News. “Great job!”
Robertson says he could see coming back to Halifax for a longer trip and to head other cities.
