Highway Twinning Advocate Pushes For Action

It’ll be costly but a long time supporter of twinning Highway 103 from Tantallon to Bridgewater says the money is there for the work. Former HRM councillor Bruce Hetherington, who spends summers in Green Bay and lost a son to a 103 crash 6 years ago, says too many people have died or been maimed for life by crashes on the highway. He says the feds have a huge pot of money available from all those gas taxes over the years but they’ve been squirrelling it away! “The gas tax both federal and provincial was supposed to be for infrastructure highways”, he says. “They put it into general revenue now. No one seems to want to spend it on the highways. Well, their residents who they’re supposed to be protecting are dying (on that highway).” Hetherington, who represents a group promoting the twinning of the 103, is calling on the province and the federal government to work together. He says they should ante-up the financing and development of a plan to make one of Canada’s deadliest highways … safer.
