How to ease back into the grind post vacation

Vacation is good, but what about the dreaded return to work?
I remember the old days when you were working along and then you went on vacation. The work stopped and time off began and then when you returned you started working again. Of course there would be a hand-off to whomever was covering your duties, but that was about all. If something did change during your absence it was usually not too major and aside from some kind of adjusted way of doing things, the return to work was usually not too major.
As we take time off in today’s world, there is often more preparation time needed where you either have to work ahead to cover upcoming duties, or ensure things are in place and arranged for coverage of your duties. You don’t just forward your phone, the emails still come in, even with a response that lets everyone know that you are away.
So how can you not be discouraged when the inbox has 500 emails waiting for you as you return from a few days off? I usually use the suggested first in, first out rule and here are a few more tips to make things easier for you.

Now email is not the only worry as you return from time off. You go from relaxing in the sun, or at least sleeping in to the hustle and bustle of the workplace. Add to that the side conversations around your vacation time which you need to enjoy too, can’t be all work.
How can you limit stress and get through the first few days back?
Here are a few tips that will hopefully help with your return.
