How To Tell If Your Cat Likes You

If you’ve ever looked at your cat and thought, “Do you actually like me… or am I just the food provider?” you’re not alone.

Cats don’t show affection the way dogs do, but they absolutely have their own language. For example, if your cat slow-blinks at you? That’s a big one. In the cat world, closing their eyes around you means they feel safe. Try slow-blinking back, a lot of cats will respond.

Another sign? The tail. If their tail is upright with a little curve at the top, almost like a question mark, that’s basically a feline “happy to see you.” And if they head-butt you,  that’s called bunting. They’re marking you with their scent, which is actually a compliment. It means you’re part of their safe circle.

Even the classic “kneading” with their paws goes back to kittenhood, it’s a comfort behavior. So if your cat’s making biscuits on your lap, congratulations… you’ve been approved.

So yeah, they may pretend they don’t care. But if you’re getting slow blinks, head bumps, and the occasional lap sit? Your cat probably likes you more than they’re letting on.
