I’ll admit it. I just don’t get it.
For the past couple of weeks, Prince Harry has been appearing on every possible television show that would have him doing interviews to promote his new book. That book was released yesterday, and reports are calling it the fastest selling non-fiction book every. The only other books that can rival it as far as number of copies sold right out of the gate feature Harry Potter. So maybe it’s in the name.
It is supposed to be a tell all book detailing all the various ups and downs of his life, and people seem to be flocking to bookstores to pick it up. The thing is… I don’t really care.
Maybe there’s something wrong with me, but I have absolutely no interest in the life of a former royal. It’s a life I will never have and really have no interest in. I have nothing against the royal family. I think it’s kind of nice they exist. It adds a certain sense of history that they are there. But I don’t need to know all the details of their lives.
I do like reading, but if I’m looking for a way to escape into a book, I’d much rather fiction. And it’s been a couple weeks, so Stephen King must have something new out. That’s more my speed.
And the fact he announced he wanted to leave the royal family for a quieter, more private life, while at the same time continuing to court constant attention just confuses me.
He has had disagreements with his family. They don’t all get along. We probably all can tell stories like that, but we don’t get a book deal for it.
So I won’t be standing in line to get a copy. I’m sure he’s a very nice person and means well, but I have other things in my life that are more important.
