The South Shore Ice Sharks PeeWee ‘A’ girls team captured a gold medal this weekend at the 10th Annual Sweet Heart Tournament in PEI.
The team went undefeated, winning five games to finish in first place.
Also, the South Shore Ice Sharks Bantam ‘AA’ team finished in second place at the Pictou County Memorial Tournament.
The Sharks lost 4-1 in the final to the Cape Breton County Islanders.
Assistant Captain Colton Lohnes says the team fell behind 2-0 and struggled to come back.
“We came out a little flat at the beginning but I mean, we battled hard at the end. We came up against a good Cape Breton team, they were really good and it feels pretty good to get silver here.”
Assistant Captain Mark Sabean says Cape Breton just played better.
“They were pretty skilled players. They had a good forecheck, they were always on the puck, always hitting and stuff. Just a well-rounded team.”
Ice Sharks netminder Nick Croft was named the tournament’s top goaltender.
