Influenza Shot Can Still Prevent Illness

The dreaded flu bug is making the rounds! About three dozen cases are being reported in the province. However, the deputy chief medical health officer suspects many more cases are probably going un-reported. Dr. Frank Atherton says seniors in nursing homes seem to be particularly affected this winter. He tells us: “We know from previous years, where the H3N2 virus has been the dominant strain, its particularly older people and very young people too who bear the brunt of illness.” Dr. Atherton also says it may seem late in the season but getting a flu shot can still ward off the virus. Vaccine is available through your doctor or at a pharmacy.
