“It’s all About the Message Being Sent,” says Lumberjacks’ Head Coach and GM

We told you earlier this week about the South Shore Lumberjacks Hockey Team seeking fan support, following a reduction in financial support from the Town of Bridgewater, and so far, no support from the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg.

The team had even reached out on Twitter asking fans to get behind them and a day later that Tweet was gone.

Head Coach and General Manager, Kyle McAllister, says while they are disappointed, they didn’t want to be an online forum for people to vent, so they pulled the Tweet.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion and we appreciate that and we just didn’t want to be the forum for it, whether it be for us or against us, you know, we just want to stick to the facts and that’s we decided to make that decision,” says McAllister.

At the end of the day, McAllister still feels a level of disappointment; he says they really believed that both Councils (The Town of Bridgewater and the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg) would come on board and see the value the organization is trying to bring to the entire South Shore.

McAllister says a lack of support at the Municipal level was a disheartening blow and a step back for the organization, money that they now have to try and make up elsewhere.

“You know for us, that’s just not what we were hoping for from our local councils,” says McAllister. “We provide the people of the area (South Shore) with a good product, and we’re putting winning teams on the ice, and it really stung, it really did, it was tough for us to see that news.”

The Town of Bridgewater has pledged $5,000 in financial support for the 2018-19 Hockey Season, down from the $15,000 they doled out last year.

The team has yet to hear back from the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg.
