It was a historic day in Ottawa Wednesday as the pride flag was raised on Parliament Hill for the first time.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau raised the rainbow banner on the west lawn in a celebration that received all-party support.
South Shore – St. Margaret’s MP, Bernadette Jordan, says she’s passionate about the lesbien, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community.
“Making sure that their rights are respected, that they are recognized. I think that it’s really important and it’s really special to see this happen on the hill.”

The flag was raised following weeks of discussion by Edmonton MP Randy Boissonnault.
June is LBGTQ Pride Month.
