Justice For Women Up Is For Discussion

Two organizations are joining forces to getter better justice for women in the South Shore.

Be The Peace Institute and Talk Justice, an initiative from Nova Scotia Barristers Society are hosting a discussion on the issues women face in the justice system.

They hope to prevent systemic trauma, use restorative justice to create another path to justice and empower women.

Sue Bookchin, Executive Director of Be The Peace wants to hear women’s stories.

“You know justice and healing – we are finding, are intimately connected.”

Stacey Godsoe with Be The Peace says the criminal justice system provides neither support for victims nor the appropriate justice.

“The purpose of our project is to explore how women who have experienced gender-based violent crimes define justice.”

The groups want to use the stories they collect to improve how women are treated in the justice system.

The discussion will take place at the Best Western Plus in Cookville at 1:00pm on Tuesday May 30.
