Maritime job creation is not keeping up with the demand, according to the President of Nova Scotia’s Federation of Labour. Rick Clarke says the provincial government in his province has failed to provide job creation at a time when the economy continues to sputter. He says: “We need a good strategy. We need thinkers working together on what will work. We have a good opportunity I believe with the ships contract. But every day that goes by is probably weeks and hundreds of jobs lost.” Clarke says the McNeil government should have spearheaded job growth when it came into office almost a year and a half ago. He says it might have softened the blow of unemployed Nova Scotians returning home from the west where oil patch jobs are drying up.
