Lane’s Privateer Inn Awarded Contract To Operate Fort Point Lighthouse

A familiar name will once again operate the Fort Point Lighthouse in Liverpool.

The Region of Queens Municipality has awarded a three year contract to Lane’s Privateer Inn.

Lane’s operated the lighthouse last year and ranked the highest during a recent tender process.

Manager Susan Lane says they want to use the property to attract people to Queens.

“We’re hoping to pursue lots of activities so that it’s not just a one stop visit for the summer; that they will want to go down there and bring their families and bring their friends and just enjoy it.”

Some of those activities include a children’s theatre, concerts, artist demonstrations and readings by local authors.

Lane says she also hopes to put more emphasis on showcasing the lighthouse and its history.

“What it was like to operate a lighthouse; what it was like to live in the lighthouse. We would like to tell more stories about that and also tell the story about the lighthouse itself.”

Lane says she also plans to re-offer their Lighthouse Lunches for 2017.

The lighthouse would be open from at least June 1 until October 31.

With the contract, the Region of Queens is expected to save $25,000 a year.
