Liberals Defend Spending Spree

Opposition is accusing the McNeil government of trying to buy approval ahead of the anticipated call for election.

Over the last week alone more than $38-million worth of announcements have been made by the province.

Liberal MLA Mark Furey says having money to spend is the consequence of sticking to their financial plan over the last three years.

“There are announcements happening as we speak, no different than they would in previous years. But I will say this: the decisions we are making are consistent with our mandate and platform of 2013… The revenues we’ve been able to generate. Finding efficiencies, making tough decisions, [allows] these types of projects to advance.”

Furey says the investments being made now are for things that were identified as priorities.

He says the money is being spent where it’s needed regardless of when an election will be called.
