Liverpool: Engineer To Assess Trestle Trail Bridge

An engineer from CBCL Limited has been hired to conduct an assessment of the Trestle Trail Bridge in Queens.

The Queens Rails to Trails Association took over control of the bridge from the Region of Queens in 2016.

President Brian Hatt says the engineer will assess the structure’s concrete, steel and wood.

“And then report back with an estimate on the cost of repair and also a plan as to what is needed.”

The Trestle Trail Bridge has been closed since November 2014 after it was deemed unsafe.

Hatt says the structure could return to being a viable community asset.

“Above and beyond the normal walking usage from one side of the river to the other, this is going to be a very important think for the motorized off-highway traffic from Yarmouth to Halifax.”

Hatt says he’s heard estimates as high as $1-million to fix the bridge but will wait to see what the engineer determines before deciding what’s next.

He expects to learn more in roughly two months.

Hatt says if the costs are reasonable they plan to approach all three levels of government for money to fix the bridge.
