Liverpool’s Lane Remembered For His Dedication To Community

People in Queens County are mourning the death of former mayor and businessman Ron Lane.

He died on August 14 at age 83.

Lane moved to Liverpool from Whitehorse in 1962 to help run the family business, Lane’s Privateer Inn.

He was also mayor of Liverpool from 1985 to 1996.

Former mayor and MLA, John Leefe, says Lane was instrumental in the amalgamation between the Municipality of the County of Queens and Town of Liverpool in 1996.

“That, I would have to say is undoubtedly Ron’s greatest contribution to our community.”

Lanes Privateer Inn continues to be operated in Liverpool by Ron’s daughter, Susan.

Lane was a legion member, president of the Astor Theatre Society and a founder of Privateer Days.

Leefe says it’s part of Lane’s strong commitment to the community.

“Anything Ron undertook, he did it with vigour and full dedication.”

Visitation and a Legion Service will be held at Chandler’s Funeral Home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral is scheduled for Monday August 22 in Saint Gregory’s Catholic Church at 11 a.m.
