The South Shore leg of a series of meetings involving Department of Fisheries representatives and lobster harvesters begins Tuesday in Yarmouth.
Discussions are centering around a proposed two cent per pound levy on catches.
Fisheries Minister Keith Colwell says input from the fishermen is key.
He tells us: “Its critical that we work closely with the industry and get input from them on exactly how they want to proceed. Its important too that we put a structure in place to insure we get the top quality at the wharf and also the end supplier who supplies the markets.”
The levy, which could raise two to four million dollars a year, would be used for the promotion and marketing of lobster.
