Local Family Is Being Deported

After making a life for themselves in Nova Scotia, a local family is being told to leave the country.

The Huwilers arrived in Canada on a tourist visa 4 years ago.

Daniel and his wife Judith are well known volunteers in the Bridgewater area with two children in school.

They’ve been trying to get resident status since 2013.

Now, they are being deported and have been told to apply from outside the country.

Daniel Huwiler is frustrated because they just want to be part of the community.

“What I don’t understand…Canada or Nova Scotia is screaming for immigrants and – here we are. And it’s a no go.”

Daniel Huwiler says he’s been told the only way to get residency is to leave the country and apply to re-enter after a year.

“To establish a new life somewhere in this world again – for twelve months and then throw everything overboard again and coming back here with the unknown – whether we can stay or not.”

Huwiler says MP Bernadette Jordan has been working to help them.

But despite Jordan’s best efforts, they have until February 23 to leave Canada.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help the Huwilers pay for legal costs and moving expenses.
