Local Group Takes Ownership Of Medway Head Lighthouse

A long serving beacon shining onto the Medway Harbour in Queens County has been transferred to a community group. The Medway Head Lighthouse Society officially took ownership of the structure during a ceremony Wednesday. The lighthouse was originally built in 1983 and it still serves as a navigational aid for fishing boats and other vessels passing through the area. President Donald Allan says it’s important to preserve part of the province’s rich heritage. Allan says they can now begin with some repair work at the lighthouse. He says there some rotted wood that needs to be replaces along with some electrical work.
