Local Growers Donate Christmas Trees

It’s an industry which continues to put Lunenburg County on the global map. Nova Scotia exports about 1.3 million trees every year which helps pump roughly $52 million dollars a year into the economy. Members of the Christmas Tree Producers Association presented trees to Lieutenant Governor JJ Grant, Premier Stephen McNeil and Ministers Zach Churhcill and Keith Colwell. The trees are donated to charities each year to help those in need. This year the trees will be going to a shelter for abused women a veterans hospital and two adult centres. Local growers Lloyd Joudrey, Anzil Blackadar, Jeff Reeves and Murray Crouse donated the trees this year. The balsam fir is the most popular Christmas tree, at 98 per cent of the provincial harvest.
