Immunization Canada is urging local residents to get their flu shot.
Chair Dr. Shelly McNeil says this is the best time to get vaccinated as the flu is highly contagious.
McNeil says children under the age of five, seniors, and those living with chronic illnesses are the most vulnerable to the disease.
She notes healthy individuals can pass the flu along to high risk individuals before they even experience any symptoms.
Flu shots are available at most clinics, health unit offices and pharmacies.
