Local Vape Shop Not Surprised By New Legislation

New legislation governing vaping products received Royal Assent in Ottawa on Wednesday.

Bill S-5 prohibits the sale of vaping products to individuals under 18 years of age as well as the promotion of vaping related products that may be appealing to younger adults because of candy or dessert type flavours.

Ryan Robert Barnes, Owner of LaHave Vape Products in Bridgewater, says the new legislation doesn’t come as a surprise.

“It’s what I expected,” says Barnes. “We all knew that there had to be a little bit more of a stringent or better rules, regarding vaping products, especially when there’s kids involved.”

Bill S-5 also gives the government the ability to control packaging for tobacco products in a plain and standardized way and implement child resistant packaging on vaping liquids containing nicotine.

“They (Health Canada) will make sure, it sounds, that the labels will be changed on a lot of the liquids that really appeal to kids and look fluffy and childlike, it has to stop, we all agree on that,” adds Barnes.

The new Bill S-5 aims to help the Federal Government’s plan to make tobacco less appealing to youth and eventually help people quit smoking and/or using tobacco products altogether.
