Long-time Lunenburg County RCMP Officer Becoming District Commander In Queens

A new district commander has been named for the RCMP in Queens County.

Sergeant Derek Smith will take over the position from Paul MacDougall.

He has been reassigned to work with the mounties in British Columbia.

Smith says he’s nearing the end of his policing career.

“I thought it would be something interesting and new challenges to focus on towards the end of my career, so I’m looking forward to the opportunities.”

Smith has been involved with policing for 34 years; almost 31 of them in Lunenburg County.

He expects to start the new position towards the end of March.
