Lunenburg Co. Farm Named Provincial Woodland Owner of the Year

Out to Pasture Farm, located in West Northfield, Lunenburg County, is the winner of the 2018 Provincial Woodland Owner of the Year.

The 162-hectare plot includes the farm, forested wood lot and U-Pick Christmas Trees along with a new poultry processing plant.

Owner, Kevin Veinotte, says they were up against a number of people chosen from across Nova Scotia.

“They pick one winner for each region and then the three regions (which include the Central and Eastern Regions) all compete amongst ourselves, so there were three of us competing for this title,” says Veinotte.

This marks the second time Kevin Veinotte and his family business have been recognized with the award, for their ongoing innovative and sustainable practices within the forestry industry.

Veinotte tells Acadia News, the hard work is certainly paying off.

“I think to the best of my knowledge I was the second person to win it twice, I think most people refer to me as guinea pig, so we’re trying different things and I’m not scared to take some risks; most things pay off if you do your homework first,” notes Veinotte.

The Woodland Owner of the Year Program has been recognizing individuals in the forestry industry since it began back in 1990.
