Lunenburg County Trail Group Moves Ahead With Cherished Project

A Lunenburg County group is working diligently to create another link in the cross-Canada Centennial Trail. The CN rail line between Bridgewater and Middleton was abandoned more than 30 years ago. Sections were sold to abutting land owners, others became overgrown by trees and brush, some affected by highway construction. Now, the chair of the LaHave River Trail Association, Helen Ferns, is crediting land owners with helping fulfill a dream of creating a 90 kilometer scenic hiking trail. She says: ” We have been very fortunate with this consultation process to actually, really make some inroads there. Help people understand what we can do for them as well as perhaps what they can do for us.” Ferns hopes continued community and government financial support will help finish the job. The coast-to-coast Centennial Trail is a project co-inciding with Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017.
