Lunenburg Doc Fest Preparing To Open

A group showcasing documentary films in Lunenburg has been effected by the province’s cuts to the film tax credit.

The organizer of the Lunenburg Doc Fest, Pam Segger, says she wasn’t sure how the cuts would effect them.

“One of our festival advisors is looking for opportunities elsewhere, so we are immediately effected but we’re noticing it more with the filmmakers who are submitting their work.”

Segger says many filmmakers are moving out of the province to continue their film careers.

The festival committee is part of a group who continue to discuss the issue with the government.

As part of this year’s festival, a film about inequality in America will premiere in Canada.

‘Requiem of the American Dream’ is scheduled to be shown.

Segger says it’s a must-see but feels another documentary will be a hit with the local crowd.

“Vanishing Sail is about the vanishing art of wooden boat building and obviously that’s relevant to Lunenburg.”

Segger says to watch for local references in ‘Vanishing Sail’ including the Nova Scotia Schooner Association and Captain Dan Moreland.

The Lunenburg Doc Festival runs from September 25-27.
