The conversation around climate change keeps expanding.
Members of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO from across the country gathered in Montreal last month to discuss how our changing planet impacts their regions.
Lunenburg Mayor Rachel Bailey was invited to speak on the effects being felt by the UNESCO world heritage site.
“I think they were just getting a handle on the depth and breadth of it all, and trying to accumulate some more information to decide the best ways to go about tackling the issue.”
Bailey says climate change is already costing the town.
“Some of the infrastructure projects that we’re undertaking right now are actually related to climate change. The urgent need to get them done is partly due to the rising sea level.”
The Commission wanted to hear from someone with boots on the ground in order to help develop their policies.
