Lunenburg Street Flags Are Up

The flags are finally flying high over Lunenburg.

Visitors to Lincoln Street arrived to find rows of nautical flags hung over the road this morning.

Town council approved hanging the flags earlier this summer.

Melanie Strong is the owner of Dots and Loops on Lincoln street.

She says the flags are a wonderful way of bringing people to that end of the street.

“They just draw attention to our end of town. Especially for tourists who might just go to Montague street or might just go to the King street side of Lincoln street and not necessarily know that there’s something going on our end of town.”

Strong says the flags increased foot traffic last year.

But she says, it isn’t just about increasing business.

“So when people are entering the town it’s a nice welcome. It’s just a beautiful addition to the town to make it a little more festive.”

Strong says the town initially had some concerns about the flags.

Now that those have been addressed, people can expect to see the flags every summer.
